The Voyage

Beginning in 2021, we plan to visit the seven continents in a sailboat. We will stop frequently and travel overland. Along the way we will sail all seven seas. The voyage will take us around the world and will take at least seven years.

We will not do it alone and plan to share this challenge with friends, relatives, and others we meet along the way. We will learn as we go, gaining at least a smattering of the languages in each country as well as a better understanding of art, natural history, history, and politics. We will write about our travels and share these writings along with photos and other media on this blog. We plan to make this voyage with minimal environmental impact. The following map shows a possible route.

Rough itinerary:
  • Start in Victoria BC on the west coast of Canada
  • Sail south visiting central America, Galapagos islands, Easter Island, and the fjords of Chile before rounding Cape Horn
  • Sail south to Antarctica with possible stop at South Georgia and Falkland Islands on return
  • Sail north up the Atlantic, stopping in Brazil and heading up the Amazon river.
  • Continue north, stopping at various islands in the Caribbean and then north to Nova Scotia
    • Sail north to Greenland and around Iceland into the Arctic Ocean
    • Return south stopping in the UK
    • Sail into the Med to visit its European and African coasts
    • Transit the Suez canal and then south through the Red Sea. Possibly stop and make overland safari trip in Africa
